Alsatian Vineyards - previous | next

During a trip to France, I had an opportunity to spend time photographing the Alsatian wine country. I hope you enjoy some of my impressions.

In anticipation of starting a week of tasting, photographing, and generally soaking up the wine area, I was surprised that my first visual experience as I headed in from Strasbourg was of hops growing in fields lined with Flanders Poppies. Produced for beer, these hops are grown outside the village of Marlenheim in the flat valley between the Rhine River and the southeast facing foothills of the Vosges Mountains. It is on these foothills and slopes that vineyards are planted allowing them to soak up every bit of sunlight.
